Hello and welcome to becoming a refugee in the time of covid. My name is Guy Duperreault. I’m writing / reading from México about an hour out from the centre of the delightful small city of Oaxaca. In 2022 I left Canada when my employment was suspended because I chose not to be injected with an experimental flu concoction of unknown ingredients, efficacy and risk. At the time my partner and I were fully engaged with a strong yoga practice and extraordinary diet and so the risk benefit ratio for us was zero benefit. That choice took our yogic journey into truth, more specifically the intense desire to see the stage manager behind the theatre of life, to a new place. Saying no to the injection was a courageous act that honoured our bodies above the demands of medical tyranny and the concomitant very real and harsh threat of financial insolvency. That simple act of respecting these things we call our bodies became the unforeseen and amazing quantum leap into expanded personal agency and freedom even within social censure, castigation and financial difficulty. That has continued since then to expand my life into greater ease and reduced suffering of myself and others as I more fully embody what the delightful guru Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati called trust-falling into this amazing thing called life in the Universe. And now what I once perceived as a theatre of impending death and utter destruction I now understand is the gift of becoming awake in this extraordinary time of the Great Apocalypse wedded to the Bhagavad-Gita.

Today’s essay came as a result of a British friend’s extraordinary reaction to my phrase ‘We are living the Bhagavad-Gita married to the Great Apocalypse’. With a huge smile and laughter in his voice mail, he said that my reply to his comment was my next essay. And he asked me to transcribe it from audio direct messages to the written word. That was to have taken me only an afternoon and somehow the theme of my reply had an intriguing, perhaps even synchronistic overlap with my having been charged and convicted by a small jury of my peers, as being a ‘joy thief’.
