Hello and welcome to becoming a refugee in the time of covid. My name is Guy Andrés Duperreault. I’m writing / reading from México about an hour out from the centre of the delightful small city of Oaxaca. As I begin this the wind is blowing and you may here the sound of it like a susurrus through the trees and the trees themselves scraping against the roof.
This long essay began as a short share for a fascinating synchronicity that came to fruition in January 2025 when with my friend we encountered the Spanish translation of the bestselling book on achieving personal freedom called The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Miguel Ruiz. The heart synchronicity of this essay of synchronicities actually got started in 2023 when I met that friend with whom I encountered Los Cuatro Acuerdos in January of this year.
As I explored more deeply my antipathy towards the very poor writing and presentation of The Four Agreements this essay became a deep exploration of my own hypocrisies around impeccable language, to be a bully requires a victim, that likely most true activists hate life and several other fascinating discoveries about my self and my interrelationship with life. I manage to include a Go-to-Go ‘Chance Card’ from the Game of Monopoly’, EF Schumacher’s lovely book A Guide for the Perplexed, an I Ching Casting and I even once again walk all over the great words of dead people and joyfully riff raff the first verse of the Tao te Ching.

In July of 2024 I had unexpected pacemaker surgery that cleaned out my savings.
I requested donations to help me through the pinch. I had anticipated that my immediate threat of insolvency would be cleared before the end of the year. That did not happen as my residency status is continuing to protract seemingly interminably and I am legally disallowed from working until that is confirmed officially.
